Famous driver? Inspiration driver?

My favorite and inspiration driver is A. Zanardi. Why? He's volitional paragon. It looks like nobody could stop him. When I need to load my motivation after a bad day or a bad race, I think about him. I think almost nobody could restart racing after losing legs. The destiny gave him one chance and he used it. He has everything: passion for race and life.

Qualities needed for a successful driver?

Before you do anything you need to prepare yourself physically and psychologically. Then you need to have a big motivation and to see your aim before all red lights go off. Many people think that drivers just need to push a throttle and to steer. It's wrong. Driver steers with his head. The head is the most important thing and every action must be calculated if not, you finish your race in the gravels. The other important thing in racing is experience. It's like in normal life - the winner is not the fastest but the smartest. The knowledge about technical things is very important.

And then the last but also very important thing is to make all the people around you to work just for you and with a big passion. If you are able to create unanimous team then it's much easier to win.

What do you love in racing?

The victory is the biggest and the most passionate thing in the race of course. I really like to analyze my mistakes or just to try to find the parts where I could be faster. When I find it I feel good because I don't want to have any speed limit until I will finish my career.

Some people tell me that I'm an individualist. From one side it's good because only me who is sitting in the formula and make sudden but calculated decisions.

What is the most expensive in racing?

Points. In the end of the season each point is worth of gold. This year in F2 I was 7th, just 5 points behind the 4th. This sport is very expensive but when you are racing you don't think about it. Everybody just try to get maximum.

Is there is any profession similar to race driver?

I think skiing. Skiers instead of wheels have the skis and they are trying to ski as fast as they can. With their body they try to press skis in the manner to have less of rubbing and to keep the highest speed. Racing drivers are doing the same with the steer. Skiers and drivers need to have good reaction and concentration.

What about your leisure time?

In the past I used to read many novels or autobiographical books. Since September I have time only for law books. I like this subject.

My life is very interesting. I'm race driver, I'm traveling a lot, I know many people from different countries, I live in a beautiful country, I have a great family, I'm interested in my studies... Leisure time for me means: doing sport, being with my family, girlfriend or watching any type of races. I'm young I like my lifestyle even if I have sport's priorities.

What about your studies in the University of Zurich?

Life is so fast, there are so many talented people. I think, it is not enough for a young driver only to race. Till I'm young I want to learn as much as I can because in the future I'll carry more responsibilities for my actions and now it's the right moment to learn it.

I think I should answer to a question: Race or studies? Till I'm not hired as a professional racing driver in F1 or in any other similar level, I'm able to manage both.

Do you have regrets in your life?

I started running with Go-Kart in Italy when I was 15. It was 2 years too late. Then I jumped to formulas at the age of 17. Now, with a year and half of experience in formulas racing tracks with drivers who have 3-6 years experience, I have to be faster them. It is possible because I have already done it.

You've had your first GP2 test in November. What were your first impressions?

I felt amazing. To drive GP2 was a dream. It was a dream because my aim is to be F1 driver. I think GP2 is quite similar to F1. Now I know where I need to improve myself if I want to become a F1 driver. GP2 is faster car than F2. I adapted myself quickly and during the test I tried to learn as much as it was possible. It was also nice to have 5-7 people around who were always trying to help me. With such a big support I became better driver just in two days.

What's been the most challenging aspect?

In the beginning it was not easy to get use to carbon brakes because at first with cold tires you need to warm up brakes. It's hard because you can't block tires but you need to push brakes hard.

GP2 engine has 600 HP but it wasn't hard to drive with such a powerful car. F2 car has 1.8 l turbo engine (400 HP), so there is not such a big difference with GP2. There was one other thing to which I had to get use is down force. In first 10 laps it looked like it was impossible to overshoot a corner with 200- 240 km/h. But after a while, I didn't have any problems with it, only pleasure.

What lessons have you learnt developing your 'driving skills' in Formula 2 at 2009 season?

I learned so much at 2009 season, it was my first full season with formulas. After this season I can give more exact information about car handling, my technical knowledge is better. In F2 we don't have teams, that's why I was working with many different people. I learned to understand and to be in good contact with them. It was not always very easy for me in the beginning, some people have strong character.

The other thing that I learned was to make people to work for me from all heart. How I did it is my secret :).

Certainly I improved my driving skills, I had 36 races during all the season. I learned to trust myself, I used to race with drivers who had big experience and I was without it.

This year I also graduated the secondary school in Lithuania. I had no time for something else. I learned to find my life priorities, to do everything till the end, my life was well stocked. I knew that maybe that may be I wouldn't get the second chance.

I'm quite shy but I learned to be a tiger. I had hundreds of interviews in front of cameras and many people.

You are in the world of big prizes, competition, beautiful girls. Are you macho?

Unfortunately I'm not macho. I like stability. Especially during the race weekends I'm trying to focus on my driving but at the same time I don't forget that all people who are coming to the races are coming because of me or any other driver. I communicate with them. I like to see beautiful girls, especially when I'm sitting in formula before the start and the girls are standing in the front of formula front wing with shorts skirts :).

Autosport Magazine (UK) ranks the top 10 drivers of Formula 2's comeback season. Kazim is on the third position. The revelation of the year. He sprung a surprise from the start with third at Valencia, but it was the second half of the season where he really impressed - outscoring everyone but Soucek in the final seven races. He capped his fine year with a dominant victory at Imola.
